About Us

In 2010 world renowned colorectal surgeon Dr. Robert W. Beart and his colleagues Dr. Garza and Dr. Vukasin moved their practice from The University of Southern California to establish the Colorectal Surgery Institute in Glendale, California.  Their collaborative efforts with Dignity Health Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center created a first of its kind center dedicated to the care of diseases of the colon, rectum, and anus in a community setting.  The concept of comprehensive advanced surgical care of colorectal patients provided in our nurturing community was born and realized through the expertise of these exceptional surgeons practicing in a warm, welcoming, caring, professionally staffed, and technologically advanced facility supported by Glendale Memorial Hospital.

Throughout The Institute’s history our physicians have elevated and advanced care of colorectal diseases available to our patients by sponsoring and participating in numerous educational symposia, hands on involvement in the education of a wide variety of future and present healthcare workers, and developing protocols used hospital-wide to improve surgical outcomes.

In addition, a number of advanced surgical technologies have been brought to the community, many for the first time and some remaining unique.  These include THD advanced procedure for hemorrhoidectomy, High Resolution Anoscopy to prevent anal cancer, Anal Manometry and Ultrasound labarotory to assist patients with fecal incontinence, 3-D laparoscopic surgery, and most recently Da Vinci Robotic colon and rectal surgeries.

As Dr. Beart has moved to enjoy retirement, Dr. Garza and Dr. Vukasin have been joined by Dr. Dena Nasir who brings additional unique skills to benefit the care of our community.  Along with advanced applications of the Da Vinci Robotic System such as transanal resection of rectal cancers and rectal prolapse repair, Dr. Nasir is also skilled in the cutting edge techniques of removing advanced colon and rectal growths through a colonoscope, making surgical resection unnecessary.

The current physicians and staff of the Colorectal Surgery Institute look forward to continued collaboration with Dignity Health Glendale Memorial Hospital toward continued ongoing growth and improvement of our community’s colorectal health.
